Hi Bill,
Long time no talk. Hope all is well. When I saw the way the builds were going in NG and so many things for our perfect NG storm not working out
ie: weather, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, drilling, Iraq... La Nina, recovery (Lack of) I decided to change tacks and go oily.

In fact I decided to do two things:

1) I decided I liked AE better than AVN where I had a huge unit value appreciation. I thought AE it had better upside potential and dividend maintaining power since it pays out a lower % of cash flow and I liked AE's hedging (always heretofore a strong suit of AVN management). I traded most of my AVN in. Something had to go as I was way overweight in energy trusts and just didn't feel comfortable. While AE hasn't appreciated much it's been very docile, even restful, spewing out those dividends.

2) I decided to try my hand at HTE.un (Harvest) You know actually Peter's et al. discussions / disagreements whatever on RLI stuck in my head. These guys pay out only 50% despite their high dividend and keep the rest to grow / add reserves / production. RLI under 4 YIKES... WARNING WARNING DANGER DANGER Will Robinson..
Basically I took a big gamble cause my spidey sense said go for it. I bought a lot of HTE in the mid to upper 9's (well the upper 9's came first actually LOL). So far so go but you know I'll likely place stops soon.

Also have a fair chunk of Ultima (UET.UN).

On NG now highlandenergy.com I like this chart a lot. Smells like a trend change and looking to add some AE, maybe some others but I've got some work to do this weekend on that stuff as I've not been following too closely but I'm tingling again from NG ;o) Time to visit the Stockhouse board again methinks and check some numbers out.

BGO ?? Got a fair bit again. This is where a lot of that overweight energy money went finance.yahoo.com :o) :o) Difference from last year is I've got a fair bit of base metals and gold stocks that have copper. I recently sold NGX Gold and copper and added a little CNI but got only a partial fill for a few hundred shares as it got away from me and I was at a client site today. Oh Well.

25% energy trusts,
5% other energy,
15% other trusts,
38% metal (today's action not factored in)
Balance bonds and cash other stuff

As you can see I've by no means forsaken the trust world.

regards
Kastel

I picked up both SPF ($20.90 SO) and MX ($13.30 SO) end of May.

(Own a bit of AE pre-consolidation; RYL.UN - "Hail to the twin pennies" around $4.80)

Both SPF and MX were doing well for a while.

SPF was going up nicely since June until the last few weeks (have my finger on the dump button.. ) In it for a pop from the SO really - not sure what the prospects are for propane - but BBQ season is ending. [yes I BBQ about 4-5 days/week - refill 'em cheap at Costco) Hank Hill would have another slant I am sure.. I tell you what.

MX is another story. That bird flew on their Methanol Fumes all the way up to the mid-15's and either had a headache from using that stuff (as per the rest of the Americans :-) or I somehow forgot "SoB - thou shalt trade not hold!"
So down it came .. picked up a couple more hundred and wait again with the trigger underwater. Avg now about $13.70. So we will see.

The trusts are ok but they are the flavor of the day and to me (for some of them) are just "dividend paying" PM explorers -- PMT.UN and RYL.UN are examples where a bit of bad news and down they come.

RYL.UN traded up to around $4.80 recently after the bad news -- to me with a 2c from 6c payment, they are no longer a "4.80" stock... and so back down to low 4's again. Have to see. Few weeks of events in TO might help that stock - have to see.

Anyahoo (yes got me some BGO at 2.25.. Friday had my "trigger trade'n finger ready too ha!)

Onward and upward.. Cheers!
