A very dangerous man, that Mr Pitt:
He is speaking to a well-fed, well housed group of Veterans in the freest Nation on earth, speaking against the very establishment that makes such things possible in one of the few Nations that has never been invaded.
Veterans who have access to the best health care in the world for a fraction of the real world costs, who have an income from the government if they fall below the poverty level. Who have a home to live in because if they are or too poor to afford one the government will guarantee a loan to buy one.
Veterans whose college education is guaranteed if they chose to attend, who, no matter what race, are given a preference when Government jobs are available.
So by all means let us change things, let the Russians rebuild their Military to exceed ours, do not interfere when other Nations or people vow to destroy every person who is not of Muslim faith. Take a chance that if we do not fight then world peace will be achieved. Study some Arabic or Chinese languages, we may need them.

Scott: I served in the military but saw no combat. Several weeks ago I had the good fortune of having a 19 year old US Marine visit who saw heavy action in Iraq. Having killed many combatants and maybe others the Fedayen used as shields, I did my best to let him know that our family and many others truly appreciated their sacrifices. He did not indicate that he sense anything other than strong support from the country for their actions in Iraq.

Considering he went from senior prom to combat operations in Iraq and back to state side in a year, he was remarkably unphased. I feel he knows his country supports the operation. I gave him a copy of some work from Samuel Huntington and let him know that it may take years for him and many other young military personnel to fully appreciate how important their efforts are in this war to bring Islam several centuries forward into the 21st.

I recall you posted something about a Ranger complaining about having his return date postponed. Do you have any idea how many people have to make this sacrifice every damn day even without Iraq or Afghanistan? There are a great many people who have little understanding how much sacrifice military personnel make every year and long periods of time with hardships and changes in schedule is nothing new.

There are way too many people in this country whose biggest sacrifice for their country is paying their taxes. Having never served they have no idea the price military personel have been paying every year for our freedom.

I hope the military personnel understand the heavy political sniping of the Bush haters as just an excess of noise by the either democrats and / or self loathing America haters.

The primary reason we went to war with Iraq was well stated by Friedman today. There are many other very valid reasons IMO.

I hope all the Bush haters give equal time expressing their support to the military in any way they can.
