So were many of the actors in the movie - late 20's, early
30's. I consider rebellious youth to be mid teens to mid
20's. That's why I found it a bit confusing at that time. I
saw the disconnect you discussed, & thought these guys
(writers included) were a bit too old for it to be
rebellious youth.

Since I was simultaneously trying to follow the movie plot
(that ATM gig wasn't helping the main plot), I just
scratched my head & let it go. I didn't consider that this
may have been another subliminal message that so many
Hollywood movies seem to include these days.

IOW, I do think your POV was right & they were showing
their differing political views. That just didn't occur to
me while I strained to follow the main plot (decently acted
& some real funny bits throughout though).
