America is at her very best.

I stopped in Borders today and spent a couple of hours reading "Absolutely American : Four Years at West Point," by David Lipsky. It has become a non-fiction Best Seller.

Lipsky is a 34 year old writer for Rolling Stone. His specialty is writing about College age people. His Father told him when he was kid that he would have someone break his legs if he ever tried to join the Military. Five years ago the Magazine assigned him to go to West Point and do a story on the cadets. He refused, but finally went. When the Point assigned "minders" to go around with him he left. They came back at him and offered him a free run of West Point.

He went back and ended up spending a year with a Plebe company. He fell in love with the Cadets, rented a house there, and spent the next three years following the company through to graduation. This book is the result.

He found the Cadets to be the most altruistic and happy students of any campus he had ever been on. Great book.
