I never suggested tariffs, I don't believe in tariffs. I said that was all I could think of to deal with the issue in lieu of any bargaining position wrt the currencies involved.

I saw it all as, show me the beef. What will be will be. What a country like China does cannot be controlled in any real way. Economically speaking. It like trying to grasp a big glob of jello. What time line is one trying to control? years or decades. Controlling the weather is more likely.

As you say things flow in accord with the physics of history.

America is the most adaptable country because Americans are the most adaptable people. There is no country on earth like America.

Will what most doctors do become obsolete. Diagnostics is complex deductions. And more and more surgery is becoming less invasive. As the detailed level of the chemistry of life becomes more known, it is more controllable via chemistry. The tools of analysis to research this chemistry become more powerful by leaps and bounds.

That is the way it is in every profession. Education and re-education is the solution.

That idea scares so many. They wish to protest against it.
The physics of history just does not give a damn.
