Re. The California recall election.

There has been a deluge of tearful bemoaning from political pundits, left and right, about the "inappropriateness" of the recall. We "live in a representative democracy", and "this undermines it".

BULL! BULL! And more BULL!

What's undermined our representative democracy is a flood of special interest money feeding a corrupt political duopoly. If Californians had been given a reasonable choice of candidates in the last election, there would be no recall. Most Californians know there is a sever shrinkage of tax revenues and that isn't Davis' fault. But they told him that some time ago, and his response was to increase state spending - not on a one shot basis, but permanently by a massive state hiring program. When called upon it, his excuse was the "Fed said it was going to get better". Surely, the energy companies “gamed” California, while Washington FERCed the state – because the Pete Wilson Admin had passed foolish laws. But did Davis have to exacerbate the problem?

Few Californians wanted to vote for Davis last time, but Bill Simon? Again the duopoly had precluded any real choice. So the people revolted - and the duopoly is aghast. Well, too bad. If they don’t want it to happen put

None of the above.

on the ballot.
