Yeah, like resources are going to be devoted to such things. We don't bother with speeders or burglars or illegal immigrants or escaped prisoners. We're sure not going to devote resources to rousting illegitimate marriages. Yeah, you can get caught if someone in the family contests the will. Or if there's some mean old busybody down the street wanting his ten minutes of fame. I don't know anyone who would rat them out, but I'm sure there are some who would. It would be a risk. If one doesn't defraud anyone by, say, taking social security benefits, I don't know that claiming to be married when you're not is a crime, or at least much of a crime.
