A consumption tax is also a good idea
as an alternative to the income tax.

Some sort of "transition rules" would
be necessary, though, if it was ever
implemented.

For example, if you can prove that
you are spending dollars that you had
previously earned and saved
under the "old rules" of an income
tax, you should be exempt from the
"new rules" of a consumption tax.
Otherwise, you would be taxed twice,
which is unfair.

the payroll tax is the most damaging in this competitive climate though. We shouldn't tax companies that want to hire people here. Very bad policy.
