Ed, how do you know your loans were not sold, but Countrywide was just collecting your payments. FNM/FRE hold majority of US mortgages, but different banks collect payments (service).

I think it depends on the terms of the loan. Countrywide originated my mortgage in 1994 and dumped it within 6 months....moreover, their loan origination volume has been enormous, and there's no way they could (or would) keep all that on their balance sheet. They keep a sliver, but the vast majority gets securitized and sold (and the risk "offloaded" to Pluto).....
