China condemns bid to tarnish image

Beijing, Aug 11. (PTI): China today condemned attempts being made to spread the 'China threat' theory by a section of the American media so as to sully the country's image.

Reacting sharply to a recent article in the Washington Times, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan condemned it by saying it besmirched China's image and spread the "China threat" fallacy.

In the article, commentator Bill Gertz claimed that recent cases showed "China's government uses people who study advanced technology in the US to infiltrate US companies to gain access to sensitive information."

Kong alleged that Gertz spread the "China threat" fallacy, which not only violated journalistic ethics, but failed in winning credit among the readers.
