China end-July money supply up 20.7 pct yr/yr
Reuters, 08.11.03, 3:46 AM ET

BEIJING, August 11 (Reuters) - China's broad M2 money supply was up 20.7 percent at the end of July from the same period a year earlier, the central People's Bank of China said on Monday.

The M1 money supply was up 20 percent at the end of July while M0, or cash in circulation, was up 13.1 percent, the bank said on its Web site at www.pbc.gov.cn.

China's M2 includes M1, personal savings, institutional time deposits and other deposits. M1 includes M0 and institutional demand deposits.

China's M2 was up 20.8 percent at the end of June. The central bank has expressed concern that growth is too fast and said it would move to trim it back. Analysts say the rapid growth could spark inflation and create bubbles in sectors such as property.
