OK, let's talk language:

Language

40. We support the need for key federal institutions, such as Parliament and the Supreme Court, to serve Canadians in both English and French in a way that reflects the linguistic reality of the community served. We are committed to ensuring that federal legislation respects the primary jurisdiction of the provinces in the area of language and culture, while accepting the federal government’s responsibility to uphold minority rights.

41. Minority rights will be upheld by providing services in both English and French in any census sub-district or census tract (rural township or city neighbourhood) where at least ten percent of the local population uses either English or French in its daily life.

42. We favour the adoption of federal hiring practices that will open as many posts as possible to unilingual Canadians (either French-speaking or English-speaking) and will ensure that neither language group is subjected to unfair, preferential, or inequitable treatment in the personnel practices of the federal public service, the military, or the RCMP.

43. We support an accurate accounting for the costs of federal spending on Official Languages, and will require an independent auditor to provide an annual report on spending levels.
