Fitzgerald has been the axe on Applied, I believe being the most pessimistic regarding the stock and sector's outlook, with a price target of $13 on AMAT(if memory serves). If indeed my recollection is correct, then I am sure he is hoping they will not say anything positive, so as to diminish his "guru" status.

Gee, we've not read such nattering nabobs of negativity since Spiro Agnew was giving speeches.

But if Altera can hold on to its 18 to 19 stock price after reporting 9c in the quarter, why can't AMAT have that stock price for holding out the possibility of making 9c in some future quarter ?
