I sold my PMT and all the others too and moved on.

Royalty trusts not worth the hassle.

Looks at PVE today. Dumped after they announced the dividend cut. I can make better than the 15% dividend trading gold and silver stocks. In fact, I used the money from the trusts for my G and GLG purchases. 15% in a week and a half, cha-ching.

Just my opinion.

Hi Eva, depends on your time frame. There will be compensation down the road but whether it will make up for the dead money is anyone's guess. While I'm not at all jaded on them in general (trusts) I too sold my PMT. In a nutshell I got greedy and didn't trade my plan (also didn't read the fine print). I was just lucky I diversify. FWIW I treated it as dead money figuring I could do better also.

If you recall my earlier posts on these CanRoys (here there and everywhere) you will find that I was indeed quite cautionary and stated I had built up a lot of my positions over time so my ACB's were very low. Before the rollover (Greenspan talking NG gheesh) I was posting relatively cautionary on BBR too because of the storage builds and weather (nonetheless I got caught with my pants down on PMT also.

On the others well this sums it up..

plus I own UET.UN from the 5.40's plus there are tax advantages even outside of your RSP eg Acclam is 100% return of capital so pay no tax on the actual dividends by deferring tax until you actually crystalize a capital on the ACB reduced by the dividends received...

They are a good investment for a portion of your portfolio (25% right now in my case) but no they aren't a panacea. 25% energy trusts and 15% business trusts a bit of safe stuff and swing the rest :o) Me I like the steady income. If was doing this fulltime I might feel differently but I got a fanily with young kids 2 cats a puppy a wife and a job....

regards
Kastel
