They ruled by force, and kept the other 97% of the population in a permanent state of poverty, ignorance, and powerlessness. That system (supported by the U.S. for 140 years) deserved to die.

Hmmm... It would seem you're describing practically every Arab nation in the Middle East, if not much of the world itself.. It certainly applies to Baathist Iraq and Syria, where the minority tribes rule and oppress(ed) the majority tribes..

And it certainly applied to the rest of pre-colonial Africa, don't ya think??...

Call it Jim Crow.. Call it monarchy... Call it what you will.. It's about the powerful controlling the weak and remaining unaccountable for their actions to the society they claim to govern.
