downloaded the patch, deleted the entry in the registry, updated NAV, scanning whole c drive. got rid of msblaster in taskmaster. still have window open showing w32.blaster.worm and nav cannot access or repair this file. computer no longer rebooting. that is something this worm does. also shuts down nav, which i was able to manually re-open for autoscan. had trouble downloading new definitions, but between that , and msft's patch, i seem to be okay, but the worm is still there somewhere. i will call symantec tomorrow and do their 39.95 help assist i believe. thanks all. this one is afukker. larry

mr mark, I have NAV set to check for updates automatically, but am not sure if it does. So, I check manually for updates before running the [almost] daily virus test.

PS: haven't had one for well over a year, partly due to good e-mail practices.

PPS: I know what you mean, though. I've helped friends with their PC problems and they said the run an AV program weekly. Then it turns out they never updated the defs.
