make sure za is set to show all alerts.

the alerts tell you who/what is trying to connect. pay attention to whether it is inbound or outbound.

i recall you saying that you had a router. if it is a NAT router, it will effectively cut your za inbound alerts to almost zero.

which brings us to the one wonderful reason for having a software firewall like za complementing your NAT router... it also alerts to outbound attempts, which is exactly what that little critter you had was doing.

imo, spending dollars for the za pro version just buys you cookie protection and anti-spyware capabilities. the firewall isn't any better.

"is the free version sufficient or should one get the za4 for $50? don't want to go thru this again"

i don't necessarily mean to direct this comment at you, larry. we should all see ourselves in this, and it is for all of us that i repost it... #reply-18463683
