JotW,

Re: I am also convinced that given the available resources and stated goals of Saddam it would only be a matter of time until a much more serious threat would be presented.

I wished I could express a mutual admiration for a degree of rationality on your behalf, but alas, this sentence seems very odd. In the face of overwhelming evidence that Saddam's army was a mere shadow of its former self, that there were no WMDs, that there was absolutely no history of Iraqi aggression against the U.S., your belief here seems to be unhinged from reality. In actuality, the military budget of Iraq was trifling during the 1990's, averaging less than $3 Billion per annum, compared with a $300 Billion budget for our Department of Death. If Saddam even thought for a second about getting out of line, he knew he'd face annihilation. He was perfectly well contained.

His main problem was that his regime sat atop way too much oil for our greedy President and his cronies to keep their mitts off. What we've just witnessed is the boldest grand theft the planet has ever witnessed. There is no nobility to what we've done. The U.S. government is being run by a vicious pack of thieves.
