I'm in the enterprise side, too, though I've been retired for a few years. "I blame Oracle and Larry Ellison for this cheapening of software expertise." I agree totally. Ellison is applying some of the Microsoft tricks to the enterprise (lots of fluff, no content, customers as QA, winning through non-technical means, etc). He is really degrading the industry. However, having heard a number of stories from people who know, it doesn't surprise me. My opinion is that he is not a straight shooter. In fact, he makes Tom Siebel look good.... :)

Try the semiconductor industry. 10 yrs ago I was having a blast, loved my job. Today, I'm thinking about putting a snow plow on my pickup and heading for the Mts.
