How many times have you seen an evident bargain but you didn't at that particular moment have enough liquidity(alias cash) to avail yourself of that bargain? If you're like me, plenty of times. I've sometimes calculated the return on idle cash. It is very healthy. That's nonsense? Sure it's nonsense if we just look at the interest rate versus inflation and income taxes. But if you look at the one time in the year or two year period that you were able to dive into a bargain, because you had that idle cash, then the return looks really good. I'm still eager to buy Canadian Reits and the odd Chinese stock but I've learned my lesson and I'm accumulating cash waiting for a super bargain.
