Whether you consider most Dems socialist or not depends on where you draw the center line which is a subjective thing. A lot of people like viewing themselves as near the center. In any case Democrats are certainly more socialist then Republicans on average and most of both parties are more socialist then most Libertarian party candidates would be.

"Libertarians are hands off in both areas, so there is a difference. The opposite of libertarians would be fascist, who, like liberals, are socialist in economic terms, but on the personal matters they were conservatives."

Who told you fascists are like liberals on anything?.

Traditionally "liberal" in economics meant the exact opposite of socialist, it mean support for free markets and private ownership and control of capital, low taxes, ect. But in America today those who support more government intervention in the economy are called liberals. Fascists also support more government intervention in the economy, but they support more government intervention in everything.
