I'm assuming they will campaign, not on the economy, but on national security grounds. If the economy is not better, that may well not be enough. Depending, as always, on a viable candidate on the other side of the debate stage.


That sums up what will control, John.

1) The Iraq, and any other war situation. If they need to, maybe they can "wag the dog" somewhere next year.

2) The economy: If Bush is smart, he will dump the steel tariff in September, when he is allowed to by the "18 month rule.

3) The Democratic Candidate. Maybe Jesus will appear as George Patton.
