I don't trust most people in office, but even if you think they are liars most liars tell the truth most of the time. If they say something is true it isn't evidence that it is false. If you don't trust politicians in general (or in your case conservative politicians) then it would make sense to discount what they say, but not to automatically bet on the other side. If they said we will not invade Iraq (and few conservative politicians said any such thing) and then they invade Iraq, and then later they say "we will not invade Iran", that isn't a reason to think they will invade Iran.
