Reagan will be known as the man who propped up the Soviet Union when it needed a foe to keep the people in line. Fear of Reagan kept the Soviet Union alive longer than it should have. The Soviet Union collapsed because of its fundamentally flawed economic system that rewarded corruption and penalized independent initiative. Reagan will be known for Iran-Contra - one of the biggest presidential scandals in recent history, the S&L disaster, soaring deficits, failed economics, and calendar planning by astrology. But, he was glib.
