The Sinclairs have two 40 KW Kohler diesel generators that are attached to a 14,000 gallon underground fuel supply.
Approximately 9,000 gallons of that can be used to run my diesel engines on a long-term basis. I also have 9,000 gallons of water in two tanks which draw from four wells and feed into a 500 gallon tank inside the main building for distribution.

-LOL-

Sounds like a good idea though. When living in the NE USA, because of the cold winters, I used to have an extra tank of oil because of oil price fluctuations. Also kept an electrical generator because of power cuts. It was gas powered but I kept the gasoline bunkered in the yard. I never understood the reason to distribute the electrical supply on poles when the state was full of trees. The power would go out for days every time there was a storm .

In addition to the oil and the generator I kept a stove that could burn coal as well as wood. A ton of coal only takes up a cubic yard of basement space, and the price of coal always seemed reasonable even if the price of wood had gone through the roof. I guess not many Americans have heard of the stuff -g-
