You'd be wrong on both your points. Which I'm sure comes as a surprise to no one.

In this country, "democracy" is a commonly used shorthand for "Constitutional Federal Republic". I'm sure you were unaware of that though.

And yes, I do know what a democracy is. As a practical matter, they are limited to groups much smaller than 280,000,000. It is idiotic to expect that many people to actually vote on each measure and idiotic to expect them to know what is in each one. In a republic, this is delegated to representatives. In theory, they do that, although the Patriot Act makes you really wonder.

And there is no reason that a democracy could not have a constitution limiting the rights of a the popular assembly to strip individuals of their rights. So

is wrong.
