Hi michael97123; Re: "Yes Iraq will be a tough nut to crack and in order to maintain our credibility and give the Arabs an alternate future we must try our best to succeed."

Sounds just like the argument that made Vietnam into a deathtrap.

Re: "I recognize this could ultimately be a quag but you seem to be rooting for that outcome."

When my mother told me that I would break a leg if I jumped off the roof she wasn't rooting for me to break a leg.

Re: "We must all get real."

This is true, but the people who sold the American public the following fantasies are the cause of our problems:

(a) Iraq has piles of WMDs and is about to use them.

(b) The Iraqi people will recognize us as liberators.

(c) All the neighbors of Iraq secretly want us to go in and will provide support (i.e. troops).

(d) After the war, the rest of the world will come crawling to us on their hands and knees, begging for a spot in the reconstruction.

(e) Taking over Iraq will result in increased oil production, so long as we prevent Saddam from setting the fields on fire during the war.

I couldn't agree more. That's why I am very puzzled that the administration is trying its best to fail.
