RE: "UTEK and LRCX, two I own, made major changes in their business models over that period and suffered (or rewarded some of us) with very low prices as they sorted out the mess and abandoned dying or unprofitable business. Other companies have vanished or merged (ASML & SFAM)."

Please expand on "major changes in their business models" and "abandoned dying or unprofitable business."

Also, "very low prices" for Yugo (UTEK) and Chevy (LRCX) are not that low when you look at the low price for Mercedes/BMW (AMAT).

<Hey, you got the tables columns to align properly! Hip, hip horay!>

I don't think I did anything different than I have been doing, but if it works better for you, that's good.

<Your tables comparing 2002 to 1997 might have too much time lag to be of great use. UTEK and LRCX, two I own, made major changes in their business models over that period and suffered (or rewarded some of us) with very low prices as they sorted out the mess and abandoned dying or unprofitable business. Other companies have vanished or merged (ASML & SFAM).>

The data was only meant to give a broad picture of the Group revenue over roughly a 5 year time period. Since this is mid 2003, and the companies reporting have Fiscal Years ending in different months, some of the data is is older/newer than others. In all cases, however, the latest available information for each company was used.

Also, as you point out, companies merging or changing their business in some appreciable way greatly affects their performance over the period.
