That's not quite correct. It was market forces that took the dollar down. Reagan adminstration tried very hard to strengthen the dollar but it was to no avail. I remember those days because I used to play the German marks and Swiss franc futures. If not mistaken, the marks and francs were backed up by more gold than U$.
