I never understood what the problem is with able bodied people continuing to work past the arbitrary "retirement age". The whole idea forcing old people to scrap heap is a new idea, and it is a bad idea.

I guess the answer depends on what defines your life. If bagging groceries is it, then it is a choice you have. Don't try to pass it as a social issue. No one forces us to retire at 65, but no one should take that choice away from us.

Just think about this. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a way was found to extend life of an average American by, say 5 years, instantly? I (or any normal person) would say "great". But with the nonsense called Social Security, it would mean bankruptcy for the country.

Yes...let's all concentrate real hard at the same time...maybe we can wish it to be so.

Think about this: Health of Social Security depends on sickness and death of old people.

Money makes people say the damnest things.

I don't either; but frankly, that won't solve the problem.

SS is actuarily unsound and always has been. Any such program will eventually fail; it is just a question of "when".

The problem is that it is failing quickly. The ONLY solution is privatization, and it has to be done QUICKLY. Einstein may have called compound interest the "most powerful force in the universe", but there is one truth -- it only gains its power when it has more than 30 years to work, and really shines when it has 50 or more years to work. As it is now, massive borrowing will be required to bridge the liability for 20 or 30 years. Ten years from now, it will be too late.

Make no mistake. This is a POLITICAL PROBLEM caused by the liberals, WHO CONSTANTLY USE IT AS THE BASIS FOR SCARE ATTACKS AGAINST THE REPUBLICANS.
