"It's not recommended by Avast! to run another AV software program concurrently" none of the AV vendors "recommend" it. and they are absolutely correct. conflicts will abound. but what they aren't telling you is that it's okay to have a second AV as an on-demand scanner only. this is what i have been doing with Kaspersky for at least four months now. for anyone interested, "on-demand scanner" simply means that the second AV is not loaded into memory on start up. it isn't "always on". this completely eliminates any potential for conflict between competing AVs. and it gives the user the option of having two separate virus databases to draw from for protection from infection. the choice then becomes which AV to run as resident, or in memory. i run NAV as resident and KAV as on-demand. as a side note, i would seriously consider flopping the two if it weren't for the fact that NAV2004 (coming probably this fall) will have vastly improved unpacking engines. so i'm staying with the current 1-2 punch of NAV & KAV. there is no reason why Avast and AVG can't be run together, as long as this method is utilized. hth

If this has been answered already, sorry -- I had over 400 messages since I last checked the thread, and frankly decided not to try to check them all out. I recall from somewhere that Norton AntiVirus only posts its updates for Live Update once a week, as I recall on Tuesday or Wednesday, so if they find a virus on a Thursday and post an update even if you check Live Update every day, you won't get the new file until the following week. But I also recall that there is a mechanism for getting the updates more immediately not using Live Update but going straight to the Symantec site. I can't find a discussion of this anywhere in the AV manual or on their site. Does anybody know: 1. Is this still true, or is Live Update now able to update fully whenever you run it? 2. If not, how does one go about getting the more current definitions? With stuff coming out almost daily, a delay of a week could be fatal! TIA for any help.
