Ted, My question was: "at one point your argument that the way to deal with terrorism was to go after "root causes", such as poverty and tyranny?" Some money is spent on reviving economy (which will reduce poverty), and tyranny is replaced by a less tyrannical government. Wasn't this your prescription? Joe

How much of the $4 billion per month do you think is spent on reducing proverty in Iraq and how much do you think is spent maintaining a 150k army which is doing a poor job of maintaining the peace? Bringing order and some degree of freedom to Iraq is needed if it is going to develop. If we had not taken out Saddam then there would not be the freedom, if we left now there would be no order, so in a sense all of the $bil a month is spent on reducing poverty in Iraq. Tim
