Bald Eagle, how can the total be reduced if the government keeps spending more? What total are you talking about. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Even if I pay more of a % of the total, if the total is reduced enough, I am paying less tax.

But you are paying a much higher percentage for whatever benefit you do get from remaining services are still provided.
