Thanks. I agree with most of what you say. Bottom line was that too much easy money was floating around, with nowhere to go. I don't think the economists really understand what happened. I'm still fuzzy about how you think the government was going to fight that tide, however. Interest rates are pretty much dictated by market forces these days, the Fed only appears to be leading by trying to jump out in front of the parade. And Greenspan did talk about irrational exuberance early on (although he did not put on a sustained effort to support that observation, granted). I agree with your observations of the problem, I just don't see how you fix it.
