I think you put too much emphasis on placing blame to
political parties you don't wish to be affiliated with.
This seriously affects your objectivity.

I think that if you look at the whole macro environment,
there's plenty of blame to go around. You give not one bit
of credence to the horrifically devastating effect of 9/11
on the economy & how we continue to pay for it today.

You give not one bit of credence to the stock market bubble
that Bush had absolutely nothing to do with. This bubble
was a house of cards that, like all stock market bubbles,
imploded on itself. 9/11 was every bit as devastating to
our economy (and the global economy) as the stock market
bubble. Both were once in a lifetime events that happened
on top of each other. Blame Bush all you want, but neither
event was directly attributable to him or his handling of
the economy.

Yes, Bush was handed a stock market & an economy in free
fall. That is established fact. That meant that thousands
of internut companies were going to close taking hundreds
of thousands of jobs with it. It meant that tens of
billions in debt wasn't going to get paid to creditors who
in turn had to cut jobs, cut spending & cut costs. The
snowball effect of this alone had a massive effect on the
economy.

Several thousand other companies that managed to keep their
doors open had to make deep cuts to payrolls, sending many
hundreds of thousands of people out of work. These
companies slashed spending & restructured debt to keep from
going bankrupt. Again the snowball effect hurt creditors &
suppliers of these companies who had to make cut jobs, cut
costs & slash spending to stay afloat.

All of the folks who lost their jobs also cut their
spending. Now add in the millions of people who lost money
in the stock market & cut spending since they were living
off the paper gains in their portfolios. Add in folks who
still worked but lost confidence in the economy as they
watched the effects of the massive stock market bubble
bursting. Fearing they too might lose their jobs, they cut
their spending too.

And consumers are 2/3 of our economy. Their lost confidence
& dramatically lowered spending affected a massive number
of companies who had to cut jobs, cut costs & slash
spending. This snowball effect hurt creditors &
suppliers of these companies who had to make cut jobs, cut
costs & slash spending to stay afloat.

9/11 sent a chill to consumers globally. Spending nearly
came to a standstill for weeks after 9/11. Spending
patterns changed dramatically after 9/11 hitting many
sectors hard. The snowball effect of cutting jobs, cutting
costs & slashing spending in airlines, travel, tourism,
etc., also went to the suppliers into these sectors.

The trillion plus in equity lost in the stock market caused
a massive amount of revenues to dry up to state & federal
gov't coffers. States continued to spend as if the stock
bubble & outsized economic growth was going to continue
forever.

I could go on & on about all of the natural repercussions
of a stock market bubble that burst prior to Bush being
elected. I could go on & on about all of the natural
reprucussions of a recession that began prior to bush
taking office. I could go on & on about the massive effect
on the economy due to 9/11 that had nothing to do with how
Bush handled the economy.

The bottom line is that the recession is over. GDP growth
is happening ever so slowly. Considering how long the
effects of once in a lifetime market bubble combined with a
once in a lifetime economic disaster (9/11), actually seem
to imply that GW Bush hasn't done too bad a job thus far
IMO.

If you look at your view of the economy, it's based almost
completely on finding ways to blame the Republicans & not
consider real macro economic issues at all. I've read
enough of your posts to state that with a good deal of
certainty.

Oh sheez!!!! I had westera on ignore. Saw him post here, so I took him off ignore for the moment just to see what yall were talking about. As usual, he is trying to sucker you into a debate YOU CAN NOT WIN!! Lizzie, dont even try, and if you do, PLEASE take it back over to stockmans political debate board. THIS is a great board. Great people, and we don't go for pissing matches, fighting and insults over here. I know YOU are not like that and have always respected your opinion, and would love for you to post here more often.....but you seemed to drag somebody over with you, that will simply pollute this board, as has done with every other board he has been on. You saw my words with him. You have no idea how many people private mailed me thanking me for saying what they have wanted to say for a long, long time. I've had him on ignore since then, but everyday I have private mail ragging on this guy, and asking me to come back over there and put him in his place. I wont do it, as he is nothing but a pompous waste of time. This is a very friendly board, with super nice, people. I can't tell westera not to post here, but I can ASK, at least. TIM, this is america, so you can do as you please. But if you are going to start debating and arguing over here, I wish you would take it someplace else. Please dont ruin this board. Go back to the porch, and the political debate board and you can harass and argue with anybody you like. But I really dont want to see you engaging in your games on this board. I can put you on ignore, but then I have no choice but to read the responses of others, who are replying to you ( in vain, I might add), and frankly, like I said, this is a good board, with good people. We dont go for fighting, arguing, harassing and etc......If you wish to talk stocks, without attacking and debating people, then feel free to stay and post. But if you are going to do, what it looks like, which is starting a debate that will turn into a pissing match in which you tell Lizzy how wrong she is and how right you are, then PLEASE STOP right now....this isn't the place for it.... take your debate elsewhere. Again, if you wish to stay and discuss stocks, the markets and etc, then feel free, but notice the word I used. "DISCUSS"...this means no antagonizing, harassing "I know everything" Posts. You are welcome here, like I said. But please dont ruin this board with your political or other agenda's. If you can discuss things of RELEVANCE like a mature adult, then feel free....but nobody wants to watch to enter into debate's and arguments with everybody you dont agree with, and then watch for days on end, as you tell them how right you are and how wrong they are, before your opponent finally screams uncle.

To the rest of this board, I apologize for this post, and I have nothing against Tim posting here....I just know the guy, his method of operation, and his history, and I dont want to see this board get ruined because he chases everybody away, as has happened on so many other boards. If SI put out their list of people on IGNORE, this guy would be high on the list. When he argues ( he said one time he argued for a living..thats what his job required...)he is like a pit bull. He will not stop, even after you say uncle. He will continue on and on, until he chases you away, or you are forced to put him on ignore. TIM, STAY IF YOU PLEASE, but please leave your ego at the door. THANK YOU.
