Sure there is practical benefit to having languages in common, but that is not what i asked your candidate .... what i asked him was, should government dictate language to the citizen

He replied, 'English only', a clear yes to the question, he is therefore too stupid to hold office, q.e.d.

English is by custom and usage the primary common language of the US, its practical benefits are what make it so, not some Diktat from the government, and there is no reason for such Diktat

Other than to spit in the face of the hispano, that is, and return the US to the racism that gripped it up until thirty years ago, and obviously remains strong in some quarters ..... your candidate is running for office on lands taken from the indigenous very few generations back, to deny them the language of their choice seems a bit redundant, just salt in the wound

Thanks for that about Tysk, though, interesting .... i once knew someone very familiar with frisian and other dialects from that coast, they are the closest to english, yes .... there is a whole community of speakers of plattsdeutsch in México, by the way, they are mennonites, no one dictates language to them, they learn enough spanish to function and no more .... they also learn rudimentary english, as they come to Ontario each year to work on farms, i would personally encourage them to let their kids learn more of english and spanish, but i would not dictate this to them, or prohibit the tongue of their choice
