Just putting a positive spin:

With the increasing deficit spending which should add to
higher rates at least we reduce the chances of deflation.

Re: power - F** the deficit! We have 4 billion plus
a month to spend over in Iraq. We can spend
money here in the US getting the power system
modernized. And - it's not a job for private enterprise,
it's the government's job - and we will all have to pay
for it.

We just went through the outage here in Michigan. No
power (or A/C of course) for about 21 hours. No water.
No gasoline (all pumps were down due to power - so
everyone was stranded.)

People were pretty good overall - no real looting - but
what a problem. My wife has asthma. She can't be without
AC and air filtering systems. She had to use inhalers, and we had to run the AC outside in the car, using close to our last gasonline. We had a friend whose neighbor
had a heart attack.

Many elderly in high rises were trapped in their rooms,
as they were too ill to get downstairs.

All I know is that we have to invest to prevent this
from happening again. We must have continuous power, which
is needed to run our infrastructure, water, etc.

Unacceptable to have it go down like this, in this many states. Not an academic argument when you are in it, and
miserable.

Hopefully everyone will be back soon.

Matt
