Ted,

You complain about the budget deficit, but imagine what it would be if every wacky and not so wacky ideas that some wacky or not so wacky scientists come up with?

And every day, something happens, and there is always someone who says: "I told you so".

But every day, there are million other things that don't happen, and the million of the proponents on spending on dangers that don't materialize don't seek cameras to say: "I was wrong".
