I get the impression that a difference between us is that I see people as being more naturally inclined to fight than you do.

Not everybody, of course, but there are a lot of guys who just love to fight, and throwing them a target that they can dehumanize (a Godless invader, come to steal their oil), just makes it that much easier to justify.

War is fun, at least for a lot of people. (By "a lot" I mean maybe 5% of the human population, which would be about 1 million in Iraq alone.)
