There aren't any waves like you might find in places like Hawaii's north shore, for example, since the waters surrounding the Keys are protected by the outer islands, the Bimini chain, and so on... there's just not enough open water for waves to build...

You'll have a good time, it's very laid back... if your interested in a really neat place, I'd suggest Little Palm Island, it's near mile market 27 just off Little Torch Key, which means it's 27 miles from Key West... it's a small private island, you can only get there by boat or seaplane, but you can stop there for lunch and wander around, or stay overnight... we sometimes go there for a few days just to get away from it all, there are no phones, no TV's, and optional outdoor showers, but five star and very nice...
