There they go again, lumping all traditionalists together. Gibson's father is active with the Society of St. Pius V, which was formed when a few priests left the Society of St. Pius X over some disagreement. The details escape me now, but apparently the Society of St. Pius X was too accomodating to modernism for their taste. The Society of St. Pius V would be a ragtag bunch today if not for the infusion of Gibson's donations. Not sure if it's Mel or his father who are the primary benefactors, but the donated property in Oyster Bay, NY that serves as their headquarters is quite a nice piece of property, I understand.

And we shouldn't forget the fastest growing traditionalist group, the Fraternity of St. Peter, a group that started when seven priests left the Society of St. Pius X when Archbishop Lefevre consecrated four bishops against the wishes of Rome.

Both the Fraternity and the Society of St. Pius X recognize the Pope as Pope. The Society of St. Pius V does not. It is not a minor difference...
