That's right! Its hardly ever done because its good for the country or the state but because it fulfills the BS of a party's platform No, its often done for the good of the country or the state but people disagree about what is good for the country or the state. That having been said it is true that many things are done for purely partisan political reasons. (Of course some would argue that that is also for the good of the country or state, i.e. "if we could just get those nasty members of the other party out of the way we could finally do some good...")
