Mephisto,

I'm learning a new word. Rendition. This is what Ashcroft calls it when he sends prisoners off to Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, etc. so that they can be tortured beyond our borders. We do live in strange times.

OK, do you recall the flap over trading in airline options just before the 9/11 tragedy? Here's something that just came in via email.... makes one wonder:

Perhaps the blackout story is not pertinent to this list and maybe my
paranoia is making me see conspiracy in everything big that happens in this
country. But I couldn't help notice some trends in the stock market over the
last few days. As you could expect certain energy related stocks
(alternative energy in particular) were all up quite big at the open today
(Friday) in response to the blackout that occurred Thursday, 10 minutes
after the markets closed. I looked at a few of them, Ballard Power, Plug
Power, Fuel Cell etc. One in particular caught my eye. Capstone Turbine, a
maker of personal power generating turbines in the 1.5 to 10 KW range,
(CPST) has been trading down since late May on very low daily volume. But on
the morning of August 14, there were 2 very high volume purchases of CPST
stock. In fact there was an unusual spike volume in this stock beginning on
the 13th. For days prior to that it was DOA. Overall this stock is up 50% in
the last 72 hrs. I can't help but think somebody knew something.
