you disagree with me that Quayle was a dimwit?

How can you say that? With the man's Latin expertise, he's obviously a classical scholar.

Carter along with Clinton really had to be some of our smartest presidents that is for sure.

Interesting that you should say that. I use them as my examples, that intelligence alone is insufficient to be a great president. I’m not in any way claiming that is your premise, but many do believe that. Carter’s intelligence and previous experience led him to believe “if you want something done right, do it yourself”. That may work in some circumstances, but no one is capable of “pulling that off” with presidency. His micro-management was a disaster. Clinton’s intelligence, I believe led to an arrogance. Unfortunately, an all to common flaw among the quite intelligent. And then arrogance led him to believe he could “get away with anything”. Sadly, his “is is” defense didn’t fly, and what might have been, crashed as well.

During my lifetime a lot of people point to Kennedy, but I remember the backlog in congress when he was assassinated. So I’ll take a composite. How about the native intelligence of Clinton. The ability to appeal to the intellect in others, that Kennedy had. The ability to get his program through congress, that Johnson had. The ability to sensibly delegate (Not too much, and not too little.), that Eisenhower had. The humbleness, and power of persuasion to go after and get the best people, like Truman.

Now, if we can just find this perfection in a politician? <g>
