Revisionist bs. The problem was that the energy companies manipulated the energy market in a number of effective ways, including:

1) Reducing supply of contracted energy by shutting down in-state power plants under false pretenses of 'repairs'.

2) Withholding surplus out-of-state energy until the 'market' price spiked.

3) Illegally rerouting in-state generated electricity out of state, and in some cases back into the state, at exorbitant prices.

4) Employing various trading strategies aimed at manipulating spot market prices (e.g. Enron's 'Death Star' et al).

There is no such thing as a 'deregulated energy market'. There must always be some regulation, because a market without ample competition cannot be an 'efficient market'.

Study up first before entering the fray, Mr Watson.
