As usual, I'm not sure I understand the question but to address one point in particular...to my limited knowledge, there is no "safe" software. The reason you hear so much about Microsoft's problems is it's domination of the market. You can surely get some other operating system or set of software that is attacked less often but that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe. It's just not targeted by virus and worm writers as often. If you were writing a virus would you target it to 2% or 90%+ of the market?

IMO, staying safe on the net is not that difficult nor is it that time consuming. If one can spare ten minutes a day, one can pretty much assure that they are safe. This last bout with the worm is a perfect example. Anyone running XP or 2000 would never have had any problem at all if they had visited Windows Update regularly.

I'm not familiar with the avecho GlassWall so I have no comment.
