The administration offered few assessments of its own but dismissed predictions by the army chief of staff of a lengthy occupation by hundreds of thousands of troops.

This is the thing that pisses me off the most. If there were more troops there it would be easier to complete the mopping up and these attacks would have been stopped already. One guy getting killed because he didn't have the support he needed is too many. Mogadishu should have taught us that. It's easy to leave guys there that are already there but politically very tough to send more now that they've left.

They could also be getting the infrastructure back in order which so far has been a dismal failure. Not much winning of the hearts and minds taking place.

I can somewhat forgive them for moving forward despite the skepticism. Just as traders we buy the lows and despite consensus things turn around. If I thought of all the bad stuff that could happen to me in advance I'd never leave the house.
