Before, during, and after. Politicians do it all the time. They're trying to get what we call in the business world a 'distinct competitive advantage'. It is dirty, and often hypocritical, but it has been a mainstay of politics for decades.

Only recently have some tried to portray such politics (voicing opposition for the positions of the other party, even in times of conflict) as 'treasonous'. If it is treasonous, then DeLay, Lott, Nickels, and other leading Republicans are also such. In fact, ALL sitting politicians are guilty. Which may be true...
