Note: (1) China's GDP growth is inflation-adjusted while
growth in fixed asset investment and retail sales are nominal.

(2) The government has broadened the basket for
compiling CPI and started using 2000 prices as the base for the
index at the start of 2001.

(3) The government has said China's foreign debt at the
end of June 2001 showed a sharp rise from the end of 2000 mainly
due to a change in the compilation method.

(4) The monthly FDI are calculated by Reuters based on
accumulative figures released by the Commerce Ministry.
