"The government has said many of the deaths were among elderly people left at home by family members who left on holiday. Much of France shuts down in August. "

What's up with the french? Can you imagine leaving elderly behind in such conditions and without AC. It boggles. And your other point is well taken. There is a war still going on in iraq the left repeatedly tells us. So the press is at risk and its part of their job description to be so.
Would they have shed as many of tears if his camera was really a weapon and it took out a jeep with two soldiers on it. Much the same logic as the french imo. By the way i liked the ministers comment accusing the french people of looking for scapegoats. The vichy officials probably said the same thing after the war after shipping hundreds of thousand of french jews off tho their deaths--scapegoats my arse. mike
